One World Trekking
Aventouras is partnering with One World Trekking (OWT), a Colorado-based adventure travel company, to help provide travel opportunities in a style much like Aventouras trips in other regions of the world—the breathtaking Himalayas.
OWT has been a leader in adventure travel for over two decades. OWT takes guests on fully-supported and organized guided treks, cultural journeys and custom adventures throughout the Himalayan region of Nepal, Bhutan, Ladakh, Tibet and beyond. Andy Crisconi, the founder and director of OWT, has spent the better part of his life crafting and leading trips to this region. Although his passion for the Himalayas (the mountains, the culture, the people) eventually turned into a business, Andy’s view on the trips and the guests who travel with him has remained the same—he views OWT team as a group of friends who want to share the wonders of the Himalayas with new friends. OWT, like Aventouras, is dedicated to small group travel that simultaneously helps the communities and the local economies guests will visit while striving to conserve the natural and cultural heritage.
Babes in the Backcountry
Aventouras partnered with Babes in the Backcountry (BIB) to create a women’s specific trip to Costa Rica which blends together the thrills of the Aventouras Costa Rica adventure and the inspiration and empowerment of Babes in the Backcountry trips for a Hidden Costa Rica + Women’s Yoga Retreat with guided yoga by BIB’s founder, Leslie Ross (also a certified yoga instructor and founder of Meta Yoga Studios).
BIB was founded by Leslie Ross and is a pioneer in women-specific backcountry education. Leslie and BIB are dedicated to creating inspiring educational opportunities for the body, mind and spirit. BIB strives to develop high quality workshops that not only provide a valuable educational resource, but empower and inspire in all aspects of life. BIB is committed to educating women in a fun, supportive and safe environment. Leslie, a 3-time Telemark Free Skiing Champion, wanted to help empower female backcountry enthusiast and help them build confidence and take their skills to the next level. BIB courses are taught by women to women in a nurturing environment.
Sustainable Travel International
Aventouras works with Sustainable Travel International (STI) to design Aventouras trips that promote natural and cultural conservation by selecting lodges, the communities you’ll visit on your trips, guides, transportations, and other aspects of your trip that are also dedicated to conservation. While Aventouras continually strives to reduce the amount of carbon emissions produced by our trips, we purchase carbon offsets from STI to help neutralize the remaining carbon produced by our trips. The carbon offset funds are then invested in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and forestry-related carbon offset projects.
Sustainable Travel International (STI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing resources to travelers, travel providers, and destinations supporting environmental and cultural heritage conservations. STI also aims to promote economic development and cross-cultural exchange and understanding. STI strives to achieve this mission through a variety of programs including education and training, promotion of best practices, and a carbon offsets program investing forestry-related projects.
Rainforest Alliance
Aventouras and Rainforest Alliance have established an alliance to support best management practices in sustainable tourism since April 2007. Tourism, one of the world’s largest industries, employs more than 235 million people worldwide and generates some 9.2 percent of the global GDP. While tourism is a vital source of income for many developing countries, it can also result in pollution, deforestation, inefficient energy use and cultural exploitation. The Rainforest Alliance offers training to tourism businesses — including hotels and lodges — that provides them with the tools and techniques they need to run efficiently and sustainably. Businesses that have completed our program earn the right to use the Rainforest Alliance Verified™ mark on promotional materials.
The Rainforest Alliance uses the power of markets to arrest the major drivers of deforestation and environmental destruction: timber extraction, agricultural expansion, cattle ranching and tourism. They work to ensure millions of acres of working forests, farms, ranchlands and hotel properties are managed according to rigorous sustainability standards. And by linking those businesses to conscientious consumers, who identify their goods and services through the Rainforest Alliance Certified™ seal and Rainforest Alliance Verified™ mark, they demonstrate that sustainable practices can help businesses thrive in the modern economy.
Colorado Environmental Coalition
Aventouras is a supporter of the Colorado Environmental Coalition (CEC), a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Colorado’s (where the staff of Aventouras lives) natural heritage and quality of life. CEC seeks to achieve this goal through a number of programs that strive to protect Colorado’s public lands, ensure the quality of the our drinking water, preserve wildlife habitat and opportunities for recreation, advocate for good transportation and growth practices, promote common sense policies in the state legislature, and provide technology resources to other non-profits.
