Responsible travel is a type of tourism practiced by travelers who focus on positively benefiting the economy, environment and the culture of the host communities they visit.

Aventouras is committed to responsible travel.  We believe responsible travel enhances your trip by creating the local connections that will make your experience truly memorable.  Responsible travel not only benefits the local people and supports environmental conservation in the places that we visit; it also makes good business sense. We have teamed up with Sustainable Travel International and Rainforest Alliance, two of the leading global non-profit organizations dedicated to promoting sustainable travel, to incorporate the principles of responsible travel into all aspects of our operation.

Responsible Travel Policy

• Maximize positive environmental, socio-cultural, and economic impacts and minimize negative impacts as part of each of our travel experiences.
• Economically benefit local people, their communities and environments, support the preservation of cultural heritage, and provide for the conservation of natural resources.
• Reduce the carbon footprint or Aventouras trips and purchase carbon offsets to help neutralize the environmental impact of our trips.
• Support local control over tourism development that is sustainable and beneficial to the environment and well being of local people.
• Support businesses that involve local people and their communities in decision-making that affects quality of life.
• Seek out travel experiences that provide our guests with opportunities to make meaningful connections with local people and foster a greater understanding of their cultural and environmental issues.
• Donate one percent of our revenues to organizations that protect the land and improve people’s lives in the areas in which we travel. And this is just the start — our commitment will continue to grow organically with our business.
