FAQs
How will I know what to pack?
How do you accommodate guests of varying abilities?
What kind of shape do I need to be in to enjoy my trip?
You will get the most of your experience with Aventouras if you’re reasonably fit. Therefore, we encourage you to engage in some sort of aerobic activity for at least 20 minutes, three times a week. Once you’re comfortable with this pace, you should slowly increase the duration and difficulty of the activity for a few consecutive days until you’re comfortable covering the distances detailed in your trip itinerary. If you’re considering a specific trip, please call us and we can tell you about the exact hikes, bikes rides, rafting, and other activities on that itinerary.
While all Aventouras trips are active and designed for people who want a lively vacation with a variety of activities, the High Andes Trekking Peru trip is considerably more demanding due to the higher elevations, terrain, and length of the hikes on the five-day trek. We are happy to provide more details about the trek or you can visit the High Andes Trekking Peru trip page.
How long will we be active each day?
Vacation time is precious, so we provide you with plenty of freedom and flexibility. All of our trips offer various activity options and route lengths, so you can engage in as much, or as little, activity as you’d like. We can also shorten or lengthen our activities to suit your fancy. On an average day, though, you’ll typically spend an average of three to six hours being active.
The High Andes Trekking Peru trip is the one exception. The High Andes Trekking Peru trip is considerably more demanding due to the higher elevations, terrain, and length of the hikes on the five-day trek. During the five-day trek you should be prepared to be on the trail (including lunch and snack stops) for about seven to eight hours.
Do I have to carry any of my own luggage or gear?
Who travels with Aventouras and how large will my group be?
Our trips attract travelers of all ages who represent a diversity of interests and occupations, but share a love for authentic experiences and the great outdoors. Interested in joining a trip? We’ll inform you of the group make up and, whenever possible, the age range of participants.
Our group sizes are always limited to twelve. Therefore, we maintain one of the industry’s best guide to guest ratios for our activities—1:6. By limiting the size of our groups, we can get to know you and ensure that all of your needs are met while providing you with access to small family-run inns and pristine places that are simply not available to larger groups.
If I’m traveling alone, will you find me a roommate or can I get a private room?
Our trip prices are based on double occupancy. If you prefer, single rooms are available for an additional charge as a “single supplement.”
If you are traveling alone and wish to share accommodations, we can usually find you a roommate. If you sign up 90 days or more prior to your departure, and we do not find you a roommate, 50% of the single supplement charge will be waived and you’ll have a single room at half of the supplement charge. If you sign up within 90 days or less of trip departure, and we can’t match you with another guest, you will be charged the full single supplement fee. The only exceptions to this single supplement policy is for the High Andes Trekking Peru trip where you will incur the full single supplement even if we are not able to find you’re a roommate, and in the Galapagos. The number of cabins on our smaller, more intimate yachts is limited, and all meals are included. The boats we use are only able to offer double occupancy accommodations. On occasion we are able to accommodate solo travelers to the Galapagos.
