Country Overview:

The Galapagos

The Galapagos Islands are unmatched as a nature destination. The history of the islands, as the place that inspired Charles Darwin into developing the theory of evolution, alone is worth the trip. Because most of the islands and surrounding ocean are protected as a national park, visitors today can still hike among giant tortoises, snorkel and kayak with sea lions, sharks, and penguins, and view the finches that compelled Darwin to think about how such unique species came into being. Aventouras guests can visit three islands by private boat, snorkeling our favorite places and hiking into the highlands while enjoying the towns and beachfront hotels, or cruise among the islands on a four, five, or eight day adventure vacation itinerary.

core trip: Galapagos by Land or by Sea
The classic way to explore the Islands is by boat. Our sea-based itineraries aboard the M/C Anahi or one of our other yachts can be scheduled throughout the year and include your choice of a 4-, 5- or 8-day boat program, plus a few nights in Quito. Add on a mainland extension to explore Ecuador to create a complete experience. Read more about our sea-based trips here.

Our unusual Explore Galapagos land-based adventure visits several of the archipelago's highlights, including the Devil's Crown, the Charles Darwin Research Station and the El Chato Tortoise Reserve. Along the way we hike and snorkel, with relaxing evenings in comfortable hotels on land. Highlights include:

  • Hiking with giant tortoises at El Chato preserve
  • Exploring Post Office Bay
  • Snorkeling Champion Island
  • Hiking to Sierra Negra Crater
  • Experiencing the towns of Puerto Ayora, Puerto Velasco Ibarra, and Puerto Villamil

We are also pleased to offer the long popular sea-based adventure vacation option for cruising among the islands on varied length itineraries. Click here or on the boat section to the right to read more about our cruising options.
